IBBA 2021 Conference

2021 IBBA Conference Report

After a 2020 virtual conference, the International Business Broker Association (IBBA) returned to it’s live format, brining dedicated M&A Advisors and intermediaries from around the word together, this time in Houston, Texas at the Waterway Marriot in The Woodlands.

As per usual, the IBBA always includes some local flair at their reception events, including these cowboys:

But the hallmark of these events is the best education and networking in the industry, including an opening keynote from the one and only Dr. Bart Basi. His economic outlook:

  • Interest rates will go up
  • GDP data is not a good indicator for economic direction
  • 20% of employees expected not to return to work
  • 64% of businesses report they will increase prices; this will result in inflation
  • The value of businesses will rise.

Other takeaways from the conference from presenters included:

  • Landlords are seeking new leases instead of assigning and extending old ones
  • Business buyers are using “Escape Clauses” to tie up but not commit to buying businesses in a crowded buyer’s market
  • Middle market deals have similar characteristics to Main Street deals, but the categories are different
  • Purchase price allocation can be a frequently negotiated aspect of a small business deal which can be interpreted differently between accountants and attorneys.

VR Busines Brokers Managing Partner/Broker Neal Isaacs, MBA, CBI, CM&AP facilitated a mastermind with conference attendees on “Marketing brokerage practices with video”

The next IBBA Conference will be in Denver, Colorodo in May of 2022. More information on the next conference can be found at www.IBBA.com.
